Welcome to Prime Timers Calgary

A Brief History of Prime Timers

Prime Timers was founded in 1987 by retired professor Woody Baldwin. He recognized a wide gap existed in today’s society which caters almost exclusively to youth. This worship of eternal youth is never more flagrant than in the gay culture. Woody began the Boston Chapter by placing ads in local newspapers and soliciting his many friends. He expected only a small handful of men to attend the first meeting and was surprised when over 40 showed up. Woody took this as an indication of the need for social and cultural organizations to support the aging gay and bisexual man. Currently this organization has grown to more than fifty chapters worldwide, located throughout North America, Europe and Australia. (Adapted from PTW web site)

Prime Timers Calgary

Prime Timers Calgary (PTC) was re-established in September 2003 and is designed to encourage supportive social interaction for maturing gay and bisexual men along with their younger admirers in the greater Calgary area and throughout southern Alberta. We publish a monthly newsletter and calendar of activities. The heart and soul of PTC is contained in our monthly activities.

We have a general meeting on the first Sunday of every month which is open to members and those interested in joining our group. Men interested in finding out more about PTC can contact us by e-mail or telephone (see our "Contact Us" page). Many of our members look on our group as part of their extended family. Prime Timers Calgary works hard to provide its members with a positive and supportive environment with a variety of enjoyable activities.

If any of these statements apply to you, it is likely that you would find Prime Timers Calgary a very useful and enjoyable group to join:

  1. I would enjoy the company of other mature gay men.
  2. I am shy and unlikely to go places on my own.
  3. I would like to have a greater variety of social activities.
  4. I feel marginalized (excluded) by society in general .
  5. I would like to travel but do not like traveling by myself.
  6. I would like to have more gay friends.
  7. I am lonely and would like to do something about it.
